Andddd today I got my tickets for the AIGA Kansas City Ellen Lupton talk at the Nelson. I think it's safe to say I may be more excited about this event than anything that has ever taken place in my life to date, including the time I found out that after 4 years of working at the pharmacy (4!) I finally got a nice little blue plaque with my name on it. First name WITH last. How cool is that? I realize how lame this makes me sound and I'm ok with that.

Also. I think that during this event it will be a good time to trick some important people there into thinking I'm a big deal so that they will let me eat their cheese & fruits and drink their bubbly drinks.

weekend

This weekend was quiteeeee the adventure and a darned good one at that. The beau took me to get a massage Saturday afternoon (first. time. EVER. And officially addicted) followed by an evening of tapas (also Karen + Sangria = a giddy, good time) at La Bodega.

Just telling my family our evening plans turned into a little adventure on its own:
"We're going to get tapas, byeee!"
"You're going to get topless?! Ohh, Karen."
"Yes mom, we're going to get topless. No! Tah-pahs."

She's a keeper, that one. Yeesh.

Sunday was spent at home with the whole family over for a late lunch as my Aunt and Uncle from Virginia were in town.

The day consisted of:
eating jambalaya,
meeting Grandma's new boyfriend, Wayne,
Grandma and Wayne sneaking out to "smoke cigarettes" ie. have makeout sessions on the porch,
tales of eating 2 lbs. of Andes mints and the aftermath of such decisions,
mom almost catching herself on fire by candle flame,
and it turns out we won the lottery (and used our winnings to buy ice cream)

flea market style

When i think of the perfect studio & home space, this is what I think of. I love flea market style lofts. There's something about all these thrifty elements that just make a space charming. The eclectic feel in a way kind of takes me back to the summers I spent as a wee little K running around my grandma & grandpa's house. Their style was 'a little of this, a little of that' and had no rhyme nor reason. So many unique pieces of furniture and artwork filled their home.

What little kid even notices that kind of stuff?
Anyway these are Emily Chalmers interiors and by golly, she's good.
That curtain made of scarves is prettttttty great too.

On another note, yesterday I officially started my training for the Kansas City Color Run. I turn 25 in June, four days before this run. Oh. my. god. I am getting realllly old. But what better way to jump start my 25th year of life than with a healthy lifestyle & running in KC humid heat & being covered in sweat yet totally feeling empowered & powdered rainbow paint being thrown everywhere? You just can't not have fun with rainbow paint all over the place. It will be like running in a dream world. I think it's pretty clear that whoever planned this event meant for it to be here on my birthday. Like all of Kansas City will be celebrating, or at least that's what I'll be telling myself to keep pushing on until the finish line.

SATURDAY

I just got home from a GREAT night out with some dear friends. We all went out to see One for the Money [slow start, but turned out a-ok] and topped off the evening by getting some pie in Liberty.

It's good to have good people in your life.

Anywho, I'm mentally preparing myself for the huge amount of laziness I will be experiencing tomorrow. I'm thinkin': staying in sweats + hanging in bed for the better part of the day + watching lots of Disney movies + hot tea + online shopping + searching for some new tunes oughta do it. Yep.

TONIGHT TWAS...

...very, very fun.
I hung out with my dear friend Lauren, who is like family to me. We went rambling through the streets of KC tearin' it up like old times. There was a LOT of giggling and a LOT of girl talk.

The night consisted of:
bottomless waffle fries
mad, crazy curses at 'Bo Lings & 54th Street Carry Out parking only' signs
wearing our scarves on our heads like the old ladies do
seeing the Batman logo in the sky
talk of, ahem, the subjects of my figure drawing class
new friends & fake waiter fiances
old ladies in bathtubs on the front lawn
peekaboo moments with t-shirt holes
trying to find that rap music on the radio
the "love" we have & hate
facebookin'
andddddd remembering how much crazy stuff we have done together in our 7 years as friends

Pretty good.

That girl is off to NYC for the weekend. I made her swear to bring me back a Statue of Liberty keychain that flames and some fake street Prada.

GOTTA LOVE A KANSAS CITY SUNSET

On my drive home from school yesterday:

One of the coolest people I know is getting married in May.
I should mention that I LOVE weddings. And I have a hot date.
Ahh weddings, all the love & all the pretty things
Not to mention all the dancing (I am a dancing machine).

These are from a friends wedding this past Fall. Pretty darn good time.

last Friday night

Last night we had a little outing for some breakfast.
Biscuits & gravy + eggs + bacon + grits = having breakfast for dinner should be something we do wayyyy more often.
We went to Cracker Barrel which, for Chris, was his first time ever. He ate all his food and some of mine too, so I think it's safe to say he liked it.

Afterwards we went for a walk to check out some Christmas lights.
If I had it my way I'd just keep them up all year long, but then I guess they wouldn't have as magical of a feeling that way.

Tonight is New Year's Eve!
Dinner with some good friends then we'll be off to celebrate in Westport in some ever-so-glam outfits.

Hot tamale lips, confetti, bubbly, & sequins.
I'm ready.
Hello 2012!
